TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICERS ASSOCIATION
INITIAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

 

Each qualified high school graduate is encouraged to apply.  Applicants must submit an application within four years of graduation from high school.  Applicant must have had a minimum 2.00 grade point average on a 4.00 or equivalent system.

Awarded scholarship checks will be sent to the applicant and made payable to the college, university, or trade school of the applicant’s choice.  The granting or non-granting of a scholarship will be at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee.  A $25 fee will be charged for checks necessitating reissue.

All qualified applicants will be given consideration without regard to race, color, age, religion, sex, national origin or disability.  The DPSOA encourages high school graduates to apply for this scholarship.  Applicants who did not attend a public/private school must contact the DPSOA office for eligibility requirements.

NOTE:   Applicants must complete a minimum of 24 semester hours of college credit within 12 consecutive months and within the four year period following receipt of their Initial Scholarship. Applicants must have a minimum 2.75 cumulative grade point average on a 4.00 scale to be eligible for a DPSOA Continuing Education Scholarship.

APPLICATIONS MUST BE POSTMARKED BY THE UNITED STATE POST OFFICE NO LATER THAN JUNE 15 OF THE CURRENT YEAR.

To be considered, the application packet must contain all the following items as indicated.

Applicant must initial on this form each item submitted and include this form with the application for scholarship.

_____1.  COMPLETED APPLICATION

          Application must indicate it is for an Initial Scholarship.

            Application must be completed on a typewriter, computer, or similar
          device in its entirety.
 (Handwritten applications will not be accepted.)

         Application must have applicant’s original signature and be dated.

         All information must be true and correct to the best of the applicant’s
         knowledge.       

____2.  OFFICIAL HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT

             If an official high school transcript is not submitted, a letter, from a
           high school official, stating

           the applicant met the scholastic requirements of a high school
           graduate and had a minimum

           cumulative grade point average of 2.00 on a 4.00 scale or equivalent
           is required.

____3.  NARRATIVE

             Must be completed on a typewriter, computer, or similar device. (A
          handwritten narrative will not
be accepted).  The narrative is to include
          the applicant’s achievements, leadership skills, extra-

          curricular activities, career goals, the need for financial assistance, and
          any other information

          applicant feels is pertinent for consideration.

____4RECENT PHOTOGRAPH

            For a photograph to be published in the DPSOA magazine, it is
           recommended the applicant be in

         formal, business, or business casual attire.  Digital and photocopied
          photographs are not suitable.

          A recent 35mm color photograph is appreciated.  Discretion of the
            Scholarship Committee is final
